The UNO First Fund is the University’s umbrella giving program for all cash gifts received during the fiscal year, July 1 – June 30. Unrestricted gifts to the UNO First Fund provide Chancellor Ryan with the flexibility to help meet the University’s most immediate needs, such as attracting and retaining outstanding faculty; recruiting and retaining exceptional students; securing the most up-to-date classroom technology; assisting student and outreach program needs; and providing campus enhancements.
Donors who make gifts of $250 or more to the UNO First Fund have the option to designate their support to one of the following:
- College of Business Administration
- College of Education & Human Development
- College of Engineering
- College of Liberal Arts
- College of Sciences
- Metropolitan College
- Earl K. Long Library
- Athletics
All gifts to the UNO First Fund are important to the future of UNO, our faculty and our students.
In order to count your participation in the 2007 UNO First Fund, your gift must be received by June 30, 2007.
You may be able to increase the impact of your gift through a matching gift. Many employers have matching gift programs that will match charitable contributions made by their employees and, sometimes, their retirees. These gifts can double or triple the size of a gift. Contact your human resources office today to find out if your employer will match your gift to UNO.
The importance of giving extends beyond the immediate impact of the individual gift to help UNO secure support from external organizations. In particular, alumni giving is an important factor when corporations and foundation consider supporting UNO. These groups want to know that those closest to the University, the alumni, support its mission. Alumni giving is also a factor in college rankings.

Scholarships play a critical role in helping UNO to recruit and retain exceptional students by fulfilling their dreams of a quality, affordable college education. Through a scholarship, you will make a difference in the lives of our students and help UNO prepare tomorrow’s leaders today.
A named endowed scholarship requires a minimum gift of $25,000, which can be paid outright or pledged over a period of five years. After the initial funding for the scholarship is completed, you may make additions to the fund in any amount. Endowed scholarships are an important way to ensure that funding exists in perpetuity. The principal is invested, but not spent. Rather, a percentage of the earnings on the principal provides the financial support for the scholarship.

The UNO Scholarship Fund is a non-endowed scholarship fund, providing scholarship support on an annual basis. The fund does not exist in perpetuity; rather, the full amount of the gift is used during the year. These scholarships are funded with a gift of $1,000 or more. The full amount of the annual scholarship award must be paid by June 30 of each year in order to be budgeted for the following year.
The 50th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship Fund is a special scholarship fund created to mark the 50th Anniversary of UNO. The gift of education is a wonderful way to celebrate fifty years of academic excellence.
The first award(s) from the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship Fund will be announced in the spring of 2009 at the 50th Anniversary celebration. All contributors of $1,000 or more to this fund will be recognized in a scholarship fund brochure.
