What is The University of New Orleans Foundation and what is its relationship to UNO?

The University of New Orleans Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) organization whose sole mission is to support UNO.  The Foundation is the official entity for managing private resources for UNO’s benefit.

Who decides how gifts are used?

Donors decide how their gifts are used in accordance with University priorities.  Donors may restrict the purpose of their gifts or they may allow UNO to determine the best use of the gift.

Are gifts to The University of New Orleans Foundation tax deductible?

The University of New Orleans Foundation is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Gifts to the Foundation are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

The information contained herein is not intended as nor should it be construed as or relied upon as legal, tax, investment or financial advice.  Seek the advice of an attorney, tax professional or investment professional before relying on any of the information contained herein.

Why should I give to The University of New Orleans Foundation instead of giving directly to UNO?

Giving to The University of New Orleans Foundation, an independent, non-state entity, ensures that donors’ gifts will be used for their designated purposes and will not be co-mingled with state funds.  Usually, when donors give gifts directly to UNO, the University forwards the funds to the Foundation to manage the donation as the UNO Foundation is the official organization for managing private resources for UNO’s benefit.
