A Case for Giving

Giving is a personal decision, unique to each individual.  Philanthropic motivations vary, but often-cited reasons for giving include a desire to give back and to make a difference, an investment in the future, a belief in the overall mission or in a specific project or program of the University, a challenge for others to give, or a desire to help the community through programs at the University.  While reasons for giving may vary, every gift makes a difference and we appreciate your support!

Your gift to UNO is an important investment in the future of our University, our students, and our community.  Although UNO is a public university, we currently receive only about 30 percent of our funding from the State of Louisiana. Your support helps to advance UNO’s mission of teaching, research, and community partnership and is essential for us to enhance and build upon past accomplishments as we lead the way to the future.  Basically, your support helps make the best even better.

The importance of giving extends beyond the immediate impact of the individual gift to help UNO secure support from external organizations. In particular, alumni giving is an important factor when corporations and foundations consider supporting UNO.  These groups want to know that those closest to the University, the alumni, support its mission. Alumni giving is also a factor in college rankings.
 
Now more than ever, your support is needed. Hurricane Katrina reinforced the importance of UNO’s mission and our ties to New Orleans, the region and the country. Our faculty, staff, and students are foremost among those rebuilding the community.  Without quality, affordable education, and without the skills that higher education provides, there can be no real return to greatness for New Orleans and the surrounding areas.
